NEW X FILES "BEST OF" MOVIE TIE-IN DVD SET  Reply with quote

Hello everyone,

Those awfully nice folk at Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment have alerted us to the fact that they are releasing "X-FILES ESSENTIALS" on 14th July, to tie in with the new movie from the franchise, which will be at your multiplex hot on its heals.

Anyhow - the release features 8 of the "best" episodes as judged by X-Files masterplanner CHRIS CARTER. The question we'd like to ask on this forum is: Are these truly the best and most representative episodes to have picked, given that the "Mission" statement of this DVD release is to provide an instant primer to those not familiar with the X-Files as to what it was/is all about.

The episodes Mr Carter has chosen are as follows:

    Pilot
    Beyond The Sea
    The Host
    Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose
    Memento Mori
    Post-Modern Prometheus
    Bad Blood
    Milagro

So, what would have been your list of episodes? I know eight is a strange number to pick - just so happens that this is all they could fit onto a double-disc set - so, if you want to make it a "Top 10" rather than a "Top 8" feel free to do so ...

We recently bought the entire collection as it was going super-cheap on Amazon, hoping to pick up from the end of the second season (where we'd got to after starting to buy the seasons individually). However, that plan went south as a multitude of other boxsets and current series took over!

My main problem with TXF is the damn episode titles - most of them are about as memorable as an uneventful night spent drinking ten pints! Okay, so most SF series have episodes called things like "End Game", "Descent" or "Resurrection", and they get a bit samey, but on the other hand you have TXF, where you haf to be a (language) genius to understand the more obscure shows!

Anyway, to get to the point, I've never seen beyond season 5, so am not presently qualified to comment on the 8 or 10 best episodes, even if the series did lose its spark then (if not sooner!). I'm sure there were ample good episode in the later series that I've yet to savour...Beyond The Sea and The Host were as good as any, though. No Tooms, though?!

I have to admit I stopped watching part way through, it just stopped going anywhere really as far as I could see and then you lost people who held the show together....

Even so I'm surprised that Tooms isn't in there, although a lot of what is seems to make sense...I wouldn't have chosen Pilot as one of the best episodes but I guess it has to be there Razz
